"Crochetando" bolas (Crochet on balls)

Frio...chuva...vento...brrrr....venha a Primavera!! :)

Foi a pensar nisso que vos trago hoje uma ideia simples e barata de decoração bastante primaveril! :)
A minha relação com os tutoriais é ainda bastante tímida...tenho sempre a sensação que não sei o suficiente para ensinar seja o que for.

That was what I had in mind when I thought of bringing you a simple and inexpensive decoration idea, that is quite Springish (can I say that?) :)

Há algum tempo que tinha duas bolas de esferovite a rebolar ali no ... bom.... naquela divisão que serve para tudo - estender roupa, atelier, escritório, arrumos :)) Comprei-as pelo Natal mas nunca cheguei a usar.
Este fim de semana decidi dar-lhe uma função. Na verdade não sei de onde veio a ideia, mas decidi forrá-las a crochet, o que acabou por não ser tão simples quanto parecia.

So, lets start!

I had two styrofoam balls rolling around for quite some time in the...well... that room where I do multiple thing - crafting, drying clothes, storeroom :)) I bought them for Christmas but didn't had the chance to use them.
This weekend I decided to give them some use. Actually I don’t where I came across with the idea, but I decided to cover them with crochet, what ended not to be as simple as I had thought.

Testei dois métodos com resultados mais ou menos satisfatórios, pelo que se tiverem alguma forma melhor, por favor, digam-me!! :)
O início foi igual para os dois métodos e implica crochet em círculo.
Num círculo mágico fazer 7 pontos baixos e fechar com um ponto baixíssimo na primeira correntinha:

I tested two methods with results more or less satisfactory, so if you have any better way, please tell me!! :)

We start both the same way and this means crochet in circles.

I'll use UK terms.

Make a magic ring and chain one, make 6 dc (double crochets) so you'll end up with 7 stitches join with ss (slip stitch) in the first chain you made.

2ª fila, subir uma correntinha+1 ponto baixo no mesmo ponto e fazer dois ponto baixos em cada ponto da fila anterior ou seja, vamos duplicar os pontos

2nd row – chain 1 and make another dc in the same stitch *2dctog* till the end. You'll end up with 14 stitches.

Não se esqueçam de marcar o início de cada fila pois se não o fizerem será dificil saberem onde começaram. Existem marcadores de plástico para este fim, mas na verdade uso um pedacinho de fio de uma cor contrastante.

Don't forget to place a marker at the beginning of each row. There stitch maker you can buy but I just use a peace of yarn in a different colour.

3ª fila - subir 1 correntinha e 2 pontos baixos no ponto seguinte, 1 ponto baixo + 2 pontos baixos no mesmo ponto, assim até ao final.

3rd row – chain 1, 2 dctong I the next stitch, continue * 1 dc, 2 dtcg * till the end.

Nas filas seguintes ir aumentando sempre um ponto baixo entre cada 2 pontos baixos no mesmo ponto.

Dependendo do tamanho da bola que escolham, devem ir aumentando o circulo até cobrir a parte mais curva da bola. No meu caso fiz mais 4 voltas e partir daí não fiz mais aumentos e segui as filas sempre com 1 ponto baixo em cada ponto da fila anterior. O círculo começará a ficar concavo como uma taça.

In the next rows just increase 1 dc between each 2dctog.
Depending on the size of your ball you should continue increasing till the curve part of the ball is covered. In my case I made 4 more rows and then just stopped increasing and continued 1 dc in each stitch. The circle will start to form a little cup.

Então para o primeiro métido fiz duas metades exactamente iguais e a bola ficou assim:

So for the first method I did two equal halves and the ball looked like this:

De seguida, e usando uma agulha de lã, uni as duas metades:

Next and using a tapestry needle, I joined the two halves:

Este foi o primeiro método.
No segundo fui fazendo as filas de crochet até ter de iniciar as diminuições. Nesse momento coloquei a bola dentro e continuei as filas.
Este método em teoria seria perfeito pois não se iria notar a transição que o método anterior permite ver. No entanto, como a malha fica bastante justa (para ficar bem esticado) não consegui fazer os pontos fechados e ficam buraquinhos entre os pontos...

Now, second method.
I started as described before and continued till I had to start the decreases. Then I put the ball inside and continued the rows.
This method, in theory, would be perfect because no transition would be noticeable. However, since the crochet is quite tight (so it feats perfectly) I didn't manage to keep the stitches close together and litle holes are visible...

Conseguem ver? Para este projecto, como vão ver a seguir, não é grave, mas ainda assim gostaria de saber as vossas experiências e saber se há alternativas que consigam um melhor resultado.

Can you see it? For this project is not critic, but I still would like to here about your experience and know if there is an alternative method with a better result.

Agora, com as bolas (as que necessitarem, eu fiz duas) forradas e prontinhas, desatem a fazer flores e florinhas :) Eu usei o padrão da Lucy, mas escolham o que mais gostarem! Simples, bordadas, coloquem a imaginação em funcionamento :)

Now, with both ball (or how many you need) covered and ready, just start making flowers :) I used Lucy's pattern, but just use the one you like more! Simple or embroider, just use your imagination :)

De seguida temos de aplicar as flores nas bolas. Cá por casa andavam uns alfinetes com pérolas na pontinha, mas se não tiverem algo semelhante podem cozê-las e ficará bem na mesma :)

Next we need to apply them to the balls. I had some pin with a pearl on top, but if you don't have anything like this, just sew them and they look great too :)
